When do I schedule my baby session?

It is never too early to book a newborn session. Because your baby’s birth date is unpredictable, a time frame will be reserved for you. If you are given an induction or c-section date, the actual session date can be booked in advance. If you are letting baby decide, your due date will be noted and arrangements will be made as soon as baby arrives. Around the second or third day after the baby’s arrival, please let me know, and we’ll promptly schedule a day for your photo session. I kindly request not to delay this moment.

What is the perfect age for a newborn photoshoot?

The ideal age is 5-14 days, but circumstances vary. During this period they can be posed in a wider variety of ways and sessions generally run smoother.

It’s still possible to take these photos up to one month old, but the older the baby gets, the harder it is to get that perfect posed look.

Sometimes parents find out late or are delayed in the hospital for various reasons, so I can make exceptions up to a month, but it’s important for you to understand that the baby’s sleep won’t be the same as in the first two weeks and the baby may have colic (abdominal discomfort). How does this affect it? The lack of deep sleep affects posing. They will be simpler. Of course, the photos won’t necessarily be worse, but there may be a difference. Just wanted to make you aware.

How to prepare your newborn for the session?

Be sure to feed your baby right before the session begins—for example, when the photographer has arrived and is setting up props. Dress your baby in just a diaper and loosely wrap them in a blanket or swaddle. This helps keep your little one comfortable and avoids unnecessary disturbance during preparation. Also, have a pacifier ready—sometimes it can be incredibly helpful in creating the images you’ve been dreaming of.

If it’s a Newborn Lifestyle session, feel free to dress your little one in the clothes they’ll wear for the photos right away—no need to change later!

Should we include ourselves in some of the photos?

Yes! I know women don’t usually feel their most beautiful after just giving birth but these photos are so special to have! I can work wonders with dark circles under your eyes from your sleepless nights. I will make you pose in a way that will be flattering. Here are some suggestions for you. Pick out simple clothes, i.e. light colours, not pure white, off white is ok with no logos or pictures. Make sure your hands look nice and manicured. I will be happy to take photos of baby with siblings as well, depending on their age and cooperation

As the parent, what am I responsible for during the session?

I will be doing most of the work. Sometimes getting one pose will take up to 20 minutes or more. The most important thing for you to do during the shoot is to remain calm and be ready to soothe your little one. Baby can tell if mommy is stressed or nervous, so just relax and enjoy the session. We have plenty of time. Babies cry and fuss. That is normal. We can rock, feed and soothe baby as long as needed. That’s why I include so much extra time in my newborn sessions. What if my home is not light enough for photoshoot? Over twelve years of working in this field, I’ve worked with both natural window light and studio lighting. Don’t worry if you don’t have large windows; nowadays, I bring lighting equipment with me as it ensures picture quality.
